Research

The last time we met, the Early and Family Literacy Committee (EFL) We began the meeting by reviewing our duties.

I have just listened to the latest episode of Best of Both Worlds featuring Dr. Lakeisha from the Florida Center for Reading Research. She is a specialist in the development of literacy and language in communities that are underserved – I will certainly be following her work! ).

As we departed the session, how difficult it was to access early literacy research without having to pay the paywall. EFL members are able to visit their universities in order to get copies  boys photography carnaval photography gucci ring greyhound bus station clearwater travel plaza travel potty Travel Supreme travel transparency argyle wine astroclick travel craigslist tulsa jordy burrows gang orca of the articles in the databases of their universities. But, not all students can access top-ranked universities. This can be a challenge for library employees and their families.

The discussion did not stop there. The discussion resulted in brainstorming solutions, including the possibility of a partnership with the Association of College & Research Libraries or simply seeking an ACRL member to join the EFL Committee. Academia.edu is a website that lets academic researchers publish their research. Another participant suggested that researchers and authors meet up with each other to determine if they would like to share their work.

The committee also considered the ways to improve access to research. We would appreciate it when you come across a new article about the family and early literacy topic that EFL hasn’t included in the Toolkit. And if you want a copy of an article EFL has annotated in the Toolkit but you aren’t able to find a copy online, contact us at ALSCFamilyLiteracy@gmail.com since we may have a copy we can send you.

These strategies will hopefully help us move forward to help ALSC members to access the necessary research to effectively provide for families, children and loved ones however, we’d also like your feedback.
